NED University honoured Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah with an alumnus award in a ceremony held here on Tuesday. The chief minister received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from NED.

The chief minister, who was also the chief guest of the ceremony, presented the Research Excellence Award to Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering & Architecture Prof Sarosh Hashmat Lodi. The CM also presented him with a gold medal in recognition of his research work on behalf of the university.

Addressing the gathering, Murad Ali Shah recalled his days at the university, talking about hostel life, the canteen, classrooms, friends and teachers.

“Those days were joyful and full of fun and enthusiasm,” he said.

He reminisced that he had never been good at engineering drawing but his teacher not only taught him the subject but also instilled confidence in him which he “will always be thankful.”

Recalling the canteen where he used to have his meals, he said the lavishness of his lunch or dinner was always linked to the strength of his pocket.

“It didn’t matter what I could or couldn’t afford, life was full of joy,” he recalled.

He recalled his class fellows, including Prof Sarosh Hashmat whom he praised for his scholarship.

“He has published more than 90 research papers in leading international publication and has won an award recognising his work. Today, I am jealous of him. He has attained the pinnacle of his field.  May God grant him even greater success,” the chief minister said.

Earlier, the chief minister was received by the university’s vice chancellor, professors, and students, and presented a bouquet.
