Muttahida Qaumi Movement London leaders Hasan Zafar Arif and Amjadullah were arrested on Tuesday again after being briefly released from the Central Jail, following two months detention period.
The two MQM London leaders were arrested from Karachi Press Club around two months ago, where they had come to address a press conference.
The two leaders were detained under maintenance of public order by the Interior Ministry for 30 days. Their detention period was extended as the 30-day limit expired.
After completing the said time period, the two leaders were released from the Central Jail on Tuesday.
Upon their release, MQM London workers were there to welcome them. However, police shifted them to Nazimabad Police Station, where they were again arrested over an already registered case.
Rangers had detained the two MQM London Rabita Committee leaders and moved them to Central Prison in October. Amjadullah Khan was taken into custody after he hid inside the Karachi Press Club, while Rangers took Hasan Arif and another party worker Kunwar Khalid Younus into custody.
The two MQM London leaders are charged with facilitating MQM Founder Altaf Hussain’s inflammatory speech.
MQM London reacts to party leaders’ re-arrest
MQM London leader Nadeem Nusrat reacted to the re-arrest of party leaders, calling it an injustice.
He said that the party’s peaceful workers and leaders are being arrested.
“These acts of vengeance have exposed Pakistan Peoples Party’s façade of democracy,” he stated.
The MQM convener based in London also said that members of banned organisations were also roaming freely in the country ‘courtesy of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar’.
