Govt to launch crackdown against tandoor mafia: minister

Provincial Minister for Food, Bilal Yasin has directed the district administration to launch a crackdown against tandoor mafia for overcharging of Naan and Roti.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of Price Control Committee in Lahore at Civil Secretariat on Tuesday.

Members of Provincial Assembly, Livestock and Industry secretary, Prices Control deputy secretary and concerned officers of Food, Information, Agriculture, Labour, Finance, Transport and District Administration also attended the meeting.

The minister was briefed over the prices of wheat, tomato, poultry, and other edible items in the market. Yasin showed serious concerns over the sudden increase in demands and prices of eggs.

He said that the complaints of selling over-priced roti and naan by tandoor mafia had been received from various districts of the province.

He expressed dissatisfaction over the prices of pulses particularly Daal Channa in local markets. He directed Agriculture Department to provide better awareness and facilities to farmers for better production.

The minister also directed all the DCOs to visit Sunday bazaars to ensure the availability of commodities and he also said that Agriculture Department should develop a comprehensive strategy for farmers.

Yasin said that Punjab government will ensure the availability of edible items on standard rates and will take every measure to control the inflation, he added. The minister directed all district administration to monitor the prices in the local market.
