Rehman Bhola confesses to setting Baldia factory ablaze

An interrogation report submitted by the police in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday revealed that prime suspect Abdul Rehman alias Rehman Bhola has confessed to starting the devastating factory fire in Karachi’s Baldia Town four years ago that claimed the lives of 257 people.

The suspect was presented before the ATC amid tight security after the expiry of his remand.

During the interrogation, Rehman Bhola revealed that the Ali Enterprises garment factory was set on fire on the orders of the Karachi Tanzeemi Committee In Charge Hammad Siddiqui after the factory owners refused to pay Rs 25 crore extortion and declined a partnership offer.

He said Zubair Charya and other accomplices assisted him.

Meanwhile, the court extended Rehman Bhola’s remand till December 29.

Rehman, 46, was arrested by Thai Interpol at a hotel in the red light district Nana in Bangkok on December 2 and later brought to Karachi by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
