JAC formed to protect QAU land from encroachers

 

 

As part of a drive against illegal encroachments, occupation and non-demarcation of Quaid-i-Azam University’s (QAU) land and discriminatory attitude with the university, QAU Alumni Association, Academic Staff Association, Employees Welfare Associations have formed a Joint Action Committee which will be comprised of QAU Alumni Association president, Academic Staff Association QAU president, President/Representative Officer Welfare Association QAU, President/Representative Employees Welfare Association QAU, Prof Dr Syed Sakhawat Shah, Dr Murtaza Mughal, Dr Anwar Iqbal, Dr Waheed, Rasheed Khalid, Farzana Altaf Shah, Aziz-ul-Haq Nishtar, Dr Sajid Mahmood Awan, Salman Ali, Ch Riaz, Ch Wajahat Latif and two student representatives QAU. The committee could also co-opt other member as per desire.

The first meeting of the action committee was held at QAU Campus under the chairmanship of Sikandar Ahmed Rai President QAU Alumni Association. According to joint declaration released after the meeting, the committee members unanimously resolved to undertake collaborative efforts to protect the top ranked university of Pakistan from land mafia.

The committee members showed serious concerns that due to more than Rs 500 million annual deficit and non-approval of mega PC-1, QAU was facing a lot of problems even being ranked as top Pakistani university in various international and national ranking. Due to financial constraints, the university could not hire faculty members against the 165 vacant slots. The committee formed two sub-committees under the chairmanship of senior lawyer Aziz-ul-Haq Nishtar and senior columnist Dr Murtaza Mughal. The committees would deliberate over legal aspects as well as mobilise media and other stakeholders. The committee members also resolved to continue their struggle till resolution of the problems.

According to Murtaza Noor Secretary General QAU Alumni Association, in view of suggestions by the senior alumni members and after consultations with the stakeholders, joint committee has been formed to get the problems resolved being faced by Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad including non-demarcation and end of illegal encroachments over QAU land.
