ATC acquits Baldia Town arson suspect and policeman in murder case

An anti terrorism court (ATC) on Monday acquitted a policeman accused in a murder case.

The court acquitted Zubair alias Charya over lack of evidence under Article 497 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The police informed the court that they could not find any evidence against the suspect.

The case against Zubair was filed in August 2014 in the Peerabad Police Station and he was arrested on April 15 this year.

The accused has also been a key suspect in the Baldia Town factory fire incident of September 2012 which claimed the lives of around 250 factory workers.

The court ordered the police to hand over the accused to Rangers for interrogation.

He became a key suspect in the case after revealing to the joint investigation team that the Ali Enterprises factory was set ablaze over a refusal to pay extortion money.

The main accused of the factory arson attack Abdul Rehman alias Bhola was recently brought to Karachi after Interpol officials arrested him in Bangkok on December 03 with the help of the Thai police commandos.
