A Kuwaiti cargo ship carrying 17 Pakistanis has been in custody of Egyptian government since past four months, it emerged on Monday.

The ship, anchored in Egypt’s Suez Canal, was confiscated due to non-payment issues. The stranded crew members are facing dire conditions as the Egyptian government has confiscated the passports of the Pakistani crew members.

Four of the stuck Pakistani nationals are in serious state but are not being allowed to visit a hospital. The stranded ship members from Pakistan appealed to their government to take immediate action.

According to Chief Officer Jameel Jangian, the Pakistani crew has been restricted to the Egyptian port.

Jangian said that neither the relevant shipping company nor Pakistani Foreign Office took satisfactory measures for the release of the stranded crew members.

He appealed to Pakistani government to pay the dues and take measures for the stranded members’ release from the custody of Egyptian officials.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that Pakistan FO contacted the stranded nationals and assured them of the measures put in place for their return to country.
