The parliamentary committee of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will meet Sunday (today) to discuss the party’s future strategy for the ongoing session of the National Assembly.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan will preside over the meeting of the party leaders and parliamentarians at his Banigala residence.

“The PTI will consider the ways to force Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to come to the lower house and clarify his position over his contradictory statements – made respectively in the parliament and later before the Supreme Court – about his family member’s properties’ money trail,” PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said on Sunday.

A strategy will be finalised during the party’s parliamentary committee meeting scheduled to be held at Imran Khan’s residence in Bani Gala, he said. “It will be attended by all PTI MPs.”

The party spokesman said that the leadership had directed all the members of parliament to ensure their presence in the meeting so that a decision could be reached with consensus after reviewing the political situation in the country.

Chaudhry said during next week the PTI would intensity its demand in the parliament to seek explanation from the PM on the floor of the house. “The PTI will also consider how it could pursue its pending adjournment motion against the PM,” he added.

Sources in the party said that besides targeting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif the PTI would now also attack Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan following the release of the report of the commission set up to probe the Aug 8 Civil Hospital Quetta bomb blast.

Both the PTI and the Pakistan Peoples Party are now demanding Chaudhry Nisar’s resignation on the basis of the report which has cited inaction against the banned outfits as one of the major factors behind the carnage.

It was after a long deferment of the Panamagate case by the Supreme Court that the PTI last week decided to return to the National Assembly to raise the issue of the scam on the floor of parliament.

Besides, the PTI is planning public meetings in major cities till the time the SC forms a new bench to hear the Panamagate case in January.

The PTI chairman has already constituted a committee under Shah Mehmood Qureshi to devise a plan for the rallies and public meetings.

The party has also decided to constitute a parliamentary board so that it can finalise a list of candidates in every constituency before the next general elections which, according to Mr Khan, are expected any time in 2017.

According to the PTI leader, the party will also decide today (Sunday) whether to hold its planned December 25 rally to ramp up pressure on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Peshawar or Swabi. The party had announced it would hold two public gatherings before the first week of January 2017, when the Supreme Court is scheduled to resume fresh hearing of the Panamagate case.

According to sources, party chief Imran Khan is favouring the venue of Swabi over Peshawar. The second gathering will either be held in Rawalpindi or Karachi.
