Minister inaugurates rural ambulance referral service

Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir inaugurated Rural Ambulance Service (RAS) programme at Directorate General Health Services, in Lahore on Sunday.

Secretary Primary and Secondary Health Ali Jan Khan, DG Health Mukhtar Hussain Syed and other senior officers of the department were also present.

Director Integrated Reproductive, Mother, New Born Child Health Programme (IRMNCH), Akhtar Rashid Malik informed that this ambulance service would follow the same guidelines as Rescue 1122.

He informed that call response centres would be established for this purpose and 250 ambulances are being attached to 800 basic health units (BHUs).

Talking to the media persons, Imran Nazir said the ambulance would reach immediately to the house that on receiving a call from any family.

The minister further said that this service would be outsourced to maintain the quality of the service and to avoid misuse of the vehicles. He informed that lady health workers would create awareness among the women of the concerned areas. They will also distribute pamphlets containing necessary information.

Imran Nazir said that Chief Minister Sharif is taking personal interest to make Punjab a healthy province. On the directions of the chief minister, a modern mechanism system is being developed to ensure the provision of health facilities at doorsteps of the people.
