The district police officer (DPO) and assistant commissioner (AC) of Awaran escaped unhurt while five police personnel sustained injuries when some unidentified armed men attacked at a convoy carrying DPO and assistant commissioner in Awaran on Saturday.
According to the police sources, the DPO and assistant commissioner were on their way to office when some armed men opened fire at their convoy in Jhav area of Awaran, injuring five security officials including three policemen and two levies personnel.
The police said that the DPO and the AC remained unhurt in the attack. The assailants managed to flee from the scene after firing incident while police and other law-enforcement agencies cordoned off the entire area and started search operation for hunting the miscreants.
The injured have been shifted to the hospital and two of them are in critical condition. Such attacks on government officials are not unheard of in the restive province where militants of separatist groups attack state apparatus.
