A large number of people belonging to different walks of life paid tributes to 132 children among 140 innocent people who were martyred in a horrific terrorist attack on Army Public School, Peshawar two years ago on December 16.
Talking to the media here on Friday, All Pakistan Women Association (APWA) Chairperson and the Rotary Club General Secretary Almas Zafar, the programme manager at Development Awareness and Management of Natural Resource (DAMAN) Krishna Lal, eminent educationists and Piggot Memmorial Higher Secondary Girls College Principal Jennifer Rufus Sharoon, eminent educationalist, Marvi Social Development Organization Chief Executive and social activist Ms Zaib-un-Nisa Mallah, Programm Officer Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) Abida Zafar, Chief Coordinator Qatar Charity Programme Ms Rahila Khaiskheli, Coordinator of Aurat Foundation in Hyderabad Haseen Mussarrat and others praised the bravery of Pakistan Army.
“APS incident will always give us strength, courage and a feeling of a moral win over biggest enemies of Islam and Pakistan and it is now up to us to carry forward the message of innocent children to all Pakistanis and we should not forget this tragic day and the sacrifice of our children in the history of the Pakistan,” they added.
They urged the people to come out to save the future of their children by standing up against those who were bent upon destroying the peace of the country. They said that the nation turned such tragedies into their strength and would go on fighting with greater spirit and more courageous determination.
“Today, we stand committed to root out menace of terrorism from our land once for all”, they added. They paid also tributes to Principal Tahira Qazi and said that during attack she came out successfully from school but went back as saying my children were in school and embraced martyrdom.
They said that martyrdom of students had united the nation against terrorism. They said that both the government and armed forces should work together to eliminate terrorism while the nation would always stand with them.
While, various ceremonies, functions and contests were held in different areas under Martyrs Day to pay tribute to martyred students of Army Public School, Peshawar.
Governmental and non-governmental organizations including Pakistan Peace Council, Representatives of SPARK, President Sikh Association Hyderabad Narien Singh, Manooj Maharaj, Ram Ji Lal, Chairman Hindu Association Lekh Raj, Father Daniel Desoza, Nawab soomroo, Zahid Thebo and Students of the different educational institutions took out rallies in front of Press Club Hyderabad and renewed the pledge to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country.
In the memory of Army Public School victims, civil society organisation arranged a rally titled “Hum Tumhain Nahin Bhoolay” from Hyderabad Press Club.
Social activists, journalists, lawyers and people from various walks of life participated in the rally. The participants were chanting slogans against terrorists. Addressing the participants, the speakers paid tributes to martyrs of December 16 tragedy, adding that the terrorists had failed to demoralise the nation.
They said that the sacrifices of innocent students and teachers would not go waste and the country would soon be freed from the menace of terrorism and extremism.
While, a candle vigil was held outside the Hyderabad Press Club to pay tribute to victims of the Peshawar attack.
