SC acquits three sentenced to death

Two death row convicts and brothers Falak Sher and Qamar Abbas languishing in jail for the last 15 years have been acquitted by the Supreme Court (SC).

In 2001 Falak Sher, Qamar Abbas, and three other brothers, residents of Rerhrka Bala were implicated in a double murder case, leading to a trial in which the Mandi Bahauddin sessions judge awarded them death sentences.

The five brothers filed an appeal in the Lahore High Court Lahore in 2008, and on hearing the appeal the LHC declared three of the brothers innocent but upheld the sentences of Falak Sher and Qamar Abbas.

These two then appealed to the Supreme Court, which has now acquitted them as well.

Another death row convict, Anar of Varyam village, was acquitted fifteen days ago by the apex court after his appeal against the judgment of the Mandi Bahauddin sessions judge was turned down by LHC.

He spent 11 years in jail.
