Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) President Abdul Rauf Alam has asked the business community to explore untapped trade potential in the Lebanese market.
Abdul Rauf Alam made these remarks in an FPCCI meeting with the Ambassador of Lebanon to Pakistan, H.E. Ms Mona El Tannir.
He said steps ought to be taken to promote greater economic cooperation to bring masses of the two countries closer, reported a statement issued by FPCCI here on Friday.
The meeting was attended by leading businessmen who discussed ways and means to promote greater trade relations between the two countries.
Abdul Rauf Alam briefed the Ambassador about the workings of trade bodies in Pakistan and extended an invitation to Lebanese businessmen to visit and hold a single-country exhibition in Pakistan.
The FPCCI president was of the opinion that enormous potential for bilateral trade was available. However, both countries had not even begun to explore the possibilities available in bilateral trade between the two countries.
On the occasion, Ms Tannir said that her country was known for production of olives and olive oil.
She said that Pakistan was importing olives, generators and some other items from Lebanon but that bilateral trade could be improved.
She said that Pakistani textiles, rice, handicrafts, and carpets were very popular in her country while the tourism sector of Lebanon offered various opportunities.
