Day 1: Australia 288-3 at close against Pakistan

Australia were 288 for three at the close after winning the toss on the opening day of the pink-ball first Test against Pakistan in Brisbane on Thursday.

At stumps, skipper Steve Smith was unbeaten on 110 with rookie Peter Handscomb not out 64.

The hosts lost the wickets of Matt Renshaw for 71, David Warner for 32 and Usman Khawaja for four.

Australia fielded an unchanged side from last month’s day-night third Test win over South Africa with spinner Nathan Lyon preferred to pacer Chadd Sayers.

Pakistan, who are looking to win their first series in Australia at the 12th attempt, made two changes to the side that lost to New Zealand in Hamilton last month with Misbahul Haq and Yasir Shah returning.
