US Consul General meets Punjab CM

American Consul General Yuriy Fedkiw met Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif here today. Matters of mutual interest, promotion of Pak-US relations and cooperation in different sectors were discussed in the meeting.

The chief minister said that the ties between America and Pakistan will be further be strengthened in future while cooperation in different sectors will also be increased. He said that Pakistan is making rapid progress under Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and that the situation in the country had substantially improved during the last three and a half years.

He said that Pakistan is more safe, peaceful and bright today than before. He said that the government has promoted merit at every level while transparency in development projects has been ensured.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is a peaceful country and wants harmonious relations with its neighbors.

“Pakistan has made unprecedented sacrifices in the war against terrorism due to which there is peace and tranquility in the country,” he said. “The nation is determined to rid the country of the menace of terrorism.”

The chief minister said that setting up of a society based on moderation and tolerance is the government’s priority and that sincere efforts are being made to transform Pakistan into a welfare state in accordance with the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Minorities ought to have equal rights in the country, he added.

The American consul general appreciated the measures taken by the Punjab government for the progress and prosperity of the province. He said that the development projects initiated in the province will usher in a new era of development and progress.

He also lauded the measures taken in the province to eliminate child labour and safeguard the rights of brick kilns workers.
