Funeral prayers for singer-turned-preacher Junaid Jamshed, who died in the ill-fated PK-661 crash last week, has been offered at Noor Khan air base in Rawalpindi, whereas funeral prayers of 16 other victims the same crash were offered at the ground of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Maulana Tariq Jameel, senior officers of PIA, friends and brother of Junaid Jamshed and a number of people belonging to different walks of life attended the funeral prayers of Junaid Jamshed.
The funeral prayers of the 16 victims were attended by State Minister of Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Prof Dr Javed Akram, Vice Chancellor PIMS Dr Altaf Hussain, PIMS administrator, relatives of the victims and people at large.
After the funeral, Junaid Jamshed’s body was sent to Karachi via C-130 in a coffin. The bodies of the other victims were also handed over to their family members.
Humayun Jamshed, brother of Junaid Jamshed, announced that funeral prayers would be offered at Moin Khan Cricket Academy in Karachi at 1 PM and he will be buried to Dar-ul-Aloom Karachi, Korangi, according to his wishes.
A total of 34 bodies of victims of the plane crash, including that of Junaid Jamshed’s, have been identified so far.
Heartbreaking scenes were witnessed at PIMS after funeral prayers where a large number of relatives and friends of the victims were present.
Earlier, Humayun Jamshed reached Islamabad on Wednesday to collect his brother’s body, which has been identified through facial X-Ray and history of the teeth. Humayun and Junaid Jamshed’s mentor Maulana Tariq Jameel received his body.
Body of his wife, Neha, was received by her mother at PIMS after identification. Her funeral prayers will be offered in Lahore.
On Wednesday, 7 December, an ATR-42 aircraft of the PIA crashed into hillside near Havelian area of district Abbottabad, killing all 42 passengers and five crew members onboard.
An official of CADD ministry told Pakistan Today that 34 bodies of the crash victims have been identified so far.
However, bodies of 27 victims have been handed over to their heirs while the remaining seven are expected to be handed over anytime tonight.
