A 21-year-old student who was accused of splurging millions on luxury items after bank mistakenly put $4.6M in her account pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.

The woman, named in Sydney media as Malaysian chemical engineering student Christine Jiaxin Lee, reportedly splashed out on luxury apartment rentals, designer bags and other high-end items after her Australian bank gave her an unlimited overdraft on her savings account.

Police arrested the woman in May as she attempted to board a flight to Malaysia.

Lee, who was out on bail, allegedly spent the money between July 2014 and April 2015.

She had been given an unlimited overdraft in a Westpac processing error in 2012.

Lee realised in July 2014 she had an unlimited overdraft and then allegedly went on a $4.6 million spending spree for the following 11 months.
