A Federal Investigation Team (FIA) team has brought the prime suspect in the Baldia factory fire incident, Rehman Bhola, back to Pakistan after he was caught in Thailand.
The suspect was brought back to the country using an emergency travel document, after he was arrested in Thailand by Interpol earlier.
During interrogation by Interpol, Bhola claimed that Hammad Siddique of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) ordered that the factory be set on fire.
He also claimed that other members of MQM were involved in the crime.
Owners of the factory were asked to comply with demands of extortion money and, upon their refusal, the factory was set on fire, alleged Bhola.
Sources privy to FIA stated that a court will be approached on Wednesday to acquire judicial remand of the prime suspect.
The case of arson in the factory on Hub road, Baldia Town claimed the lives of 259 workers, and injured 50 others. Conflicting reports regarding the identity of the perpetrators were received. A joint investigation team reported that the fire was the result of ‘planned terrorist activity’. A report of Pakistan Rangers revealed later that a political party was involved in the incident.
