The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide technical assistance to the Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) for skill upgradation in the province of the Punjab.  This initiative will improve the training being imparted at TEVTA Institutes.

TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh revealed this after talking with a team from the ADB during their visit here at the TEVTA Secretariat on Tuesday.  The team included Principal Education Specialist Noman LaRocque, Planning and Policy Specialist Divya Mathew, Senior Project Officer Munir Abro, and International Consultants Vandana Sipahimalani-Rao and Arif Amin.  Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, TEVTA Officers Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, Aamer Aziz, Aisha Qazi, Uzma Nadia and others were also present on this occasion.

The chairperson said that the ADB delegation had discussed in detail possibilities for collaboration with TEVTA Punjab in specific and the skills sector at large.  The ADB will support the latest training opportunities for the youth of Punjab, industry-institute linkage, teacher training, and job placement of TEVTA graduates.

He briefed the team that a modern system of competence based training and assessment of international standards had been launched.

“We have completed the targets given by World Bank for PSDP. The Industry Partnership Program has also successfully been launched in order to provide quality technical education to meet the industry demand.  The youth will not only get quality technical education but job opportunities will also be available locally and internationally,” he said.
