Chairman Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Dostain Khan Jamaldini has said that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a significant part of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ Initiative, the plan for intercontinental economic integration through six ‘economic corridors’.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, the chairman explained ‘one belt, one road’ as a development strategy and framework that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries.
He said that while the Silk Road Economic Belt was the largest amongst the corridors, yet CPEC remained of fundamental importance for regional connectivity. He said that, initially, it was a bilateral plan but now other regional and landlocked countries besides Pakistan would acquire maximum benefit from it.
He said the states of China and Pakistan would work together on CPEC’s basic infrastructure plan in order to make Gwadar port and Gwadar city completely operational, adding that the objective of ‘one belt, one road’ was to bring Asia, Africa and Europe into an economic integration.
He hoped smooth running of these projects would definitely bring stability and economic prosperity to the region.
‘Let us hope challenges such as electricity and water in Gwadar city would also be resolved’, he said.
