In the wake of the Uri attack when Bollywood was all up for banning Pakistani talent, many feared that Ali Zafar’s role in Dear Zindagi would be axed.

While the fear ultimately proved unfounded, the songs he crooned for the film have been dubbed by hit singer Arijit Singh, SKJ Bollywood reported.

Sources close to Ali confirmed the news saying that two of his Dear Zindagi songs, Tu hi hai and Tareefon se had been dubbed by Arijit.

According to the reports, filmmaker Karan Johar took the call after bearing the brunt of signing Fawad Khan in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

“After the trouble, Karan went through in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil because of Fawad Khan’s presence in the cast, Karan Johar wanted no trouble again,” a close source is quoted to have said.

The source revealed that Gauri Shinde, the director of the film Dear Zindagi didn’t want any of Ali’s shots in the film to be cut but “she had no say in the dubbing of Ali’s songs by Arijit,” since they were exclusively for Sony Music and not the film.

Arijit had previously lost Sultan’s Jag Ghoomeya to Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. To this, he said, “Nowadays no singer takes permission before dubbing another singer’s songs. Gone are the days of such courteous showmanship.”
