The government has decided to lay new pipelines in Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas at a cost of Rs 60 million to resolve the gas pressure problem as the shortage of gas crisis has taken a serious turn. The amount would be provided by the district government to sui gas department to carry out the task.

According to details, Rs 25 million will be spent in Rawalpindi city and Rs 35 million in the cantonment areas for the project.

It is worth mentioning that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership had committed to resolve the gas pressure problem on priority basis during the local government elections in cantonment board jurisdiction.

Winter has come and the gas pressure is now a serious problem as stoves have gone cold; demonstrations are held over in locality on failures of the authorities to resolve the problem.

The pressure also mounted on the PML-N’s local leadership having the mandate of this area.  Reports said that MNA Malik Abrar has given Rs 35 million from development funds for cantonment, while Shafiq Awan has approved Rs 25 million for the laying of gas pipelines.
