Waseem Akhtar on Tuesday said that the people of Karachi fully know the extent of the responsibilities and resources that have been given to the mayor.

“There is not a single street in Karachi without water and sewerage problem,” he said.

The mayor was talking to the media before heading to the Lines Area to inspect the cleanliness campaign being run there.

He said that he would inaugurate the same union council that elected him as chairman.

“The people elected me first as a chairman and then as the mayor, and I will do everything that I can to sort out their problems, despite the limited resources,” Waseem Akhtar said.

At his arrival, he was welcomed by people throwing flowers on him, but he stopped them from doing so, saying that it was a waste of money and that he had not done anything to be showered with flowers.

He said that there are a lot of problems to solve and too little time to solve them, but that he would to his best and try to resume earlier work that has been stopped. He compared facing the coming challenges to being thrown into the sea with his hands and legs tied.
