NA body expresses reservations over closure of Pak Textile City project

National Assembly Standing Committee on Textile Industry on Tuesday expressed its reservations over the closure of Pakistan Textile City Project, Karachi and observed that due to mismanagement and corruption the debt of textile city is exceeding to Rs 2.4 billions.

The committee directed the ministry to sell out 250 acres of its land for payment of its outstanding debt and efforts should be made to make it operational by involving Chinese/foreign companies for its betterment.

The Ministry of Textile Industry secretary presented the report on the performance of Plastic Technology Center (PTC). He was of the view that unfortunately the PTC was in terrible condition and needed to be focused. The committee was unanimously of the view that new campus of National Textile University should be established at PTC in order to make it profitable organization.

The meeting was presided over by Khawaja Ghulam Rasool Koreja and was attended by Sardar Muhammad Shafqat Hayat Khan, Rana Umer Nazir Khan, Haji Muhammad Akram Ansari, Malik Muhammad Uzair Khan, Ms Ghulam Bibi Bharwana, Mian Shahid Hussain Khan Bhatti, Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, Abdul Rashid Godil, Ms Asiya Nasir, Jamshaid Ahmad Dasti, Ms Romina Khurshid Alam, besides officials of the ministry.
