Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Monday said that democracy could not flourish without well-functional local bodies.
Local bodies also served as nurseries for providing trained and well versed leadership at the provincial level and later, at the national level, he said, while chairing a meeting of the provincial leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Punjab on Monday.
The political leaders of PML-N briefed the prime minister about the elections of mayors and deputy mayors after the local body elections in the province, a press release said.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Minister for Interior Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Minister for Petroleum Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Planning Khawaja Saad Rafique, Minister for Railway Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Special Assistant to PM Dr Asif Kirmani, MNA Hamza Shehbaz Sharif MNA Raja Ashfaq Sarwar, Punjab Minister for Labour Rana Sana Ullah Khan, Minister for Law Malik Nadeem Kamran, Minister for P&D Mansha Ullah Butt, Minister for Local Government Senator Saud Majeed, MNA Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmed, MNA Muhammad Pervez Malik and Sami Ullah Khan.
