Chairman Pakistan Awami Tehreek, Dr Tahirul Qadri, said on Sunday that the operation in Karachi would meet its desired goals only when terror sanctuaries in Punjab were uprooted.

Speaking to media at Jinnah International Airport, after returning from Canada, Dr Qadri said: “Karachi never had the problem of sectarian killings, it came from Punjab,” adding that “not just in Karachi, wherever there are sectarian tensions, wherever there is religious extremism and terrorism, it all originated and spread all across the country from Punjab.”

He said several good things had been done in Karachi but terrorism had not be eliminated.

Dr Qadri alleged that the ruling party deliberately lost the by-election of Jhang in favour of a banned religious group.

“PML-N had never let any political party win any by-election, but just after the change of command in Army, government assisted Sipah-e-Sahaba/Lashkar-e-Jhangvi in winning the election” he said.

The PAT chief said that a kingship was being established in Pakistan, and, in view of establishing real democracy in the country, action against this should be taken immediately, otherwise, even the constitution would become subservient to it.
