Punjab Sports Minister vows to promote games in province

Newly-inducted Punjab Minister for Sports Jahangir Khanzada on Friday expressed the resolve to do every possible endeavour for the promotion of sports in the province.

“We will mobilise all the resources for the overall development of the sports throughout the province,” he was addressing an introductory meeting with Sports Board Punjab (SBP) officials at National Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

Secretary Sports Nayyar Iqbal, Director General Sports, Punjab Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman, Additional Secretary Sports Zahid Hussain, Director Sports Muhammad Anees Sheikh and Director Admin Javed Rasheed Chohan were also present.

Jahangir Khanzada said, “There is no dearth of talent in Pakistan and solid measures will be taken to introduce a new culture of sports for the youth.”

He said that Punjab government under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will launch collective efforts to establish sports infrastructure in the province to provide a platform to the youth to display their talent.

“We are quite committed to our mission to provide best sports facilities to the talented youth of the province. To meet the future challenges, sports grounds, gymnasiums, e-libraries and playfields are being constructed in far-flung areas of the province,” he elaborated.

Praising Sports Board Punjab, Jahangir Khanzada said, “Sports Board Punjab has organised several national and international sports events including Punjab Youth Festival in the past.”

“Punjab sports ministry will continue this practice in the future as well,” he maintained.

Briefing the Minister about the sports infrastructure in Punjab, Secretary Sports Nayyar Iqbal said that the sports infrastructure in the province has almost been completed and some of the sports facilities are about to complete.

“The youth of province will be able to avail these modern sports facilities in near future,” he explained.

Addressing the meeting, Director General Sports Punjab Zulfiqar Ahmed Ghumman informed that dozens of gymnasiums and sports stadiums are being constructed in the province, particularly in remote areas.

“We will also organise sports events at Union Council Level to identify fresh talent in the province,” he stated.
