Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said that the quota for disabled persons in government jobs has been increased from 2 per cent to 5 per cent and it would be implemented in true letter and spirit.

He said this while talking to 35-member delegation of Disabled Persons Welfare Organisation (DPWO) which called on him at the CM’s House on Saturday.

The disabled persons said that every year on December 3, they gathered outside the CM’s House to commemorate ‘International Day for Disabled’ but they have never been invited inside the CM’s House. “Today we had brought flowers individually with the hope to present to young and dynamic chief minister, if allowed to see you,” they said and added that after many years they had been given the opportunity to see the chief minister uninvited and top of it the refreshment was also offered to them. “We owe you a word of thank in the shape a flowers,” they said and presented him flowers.

The chief minister said that he was feeling sorry that he could not organise any programme for them. “I would be supporting you and take benefit from your abilities by inducting you in government departments as per your quota,” he assured them. He issued directive to all the provincial departments to implement the disabled quota while recruiting new staff.

CM Murad Ali Shah said that the PPP had passed a resolution in Sindh Assembly in 2005 to urge Building Control Authority to include construction of ramp for wheelchairs but it has not been implemented so far. He directed the chief secretary to ensure that in future no layout plan of any new building is approved until a separate space for ramp is included.

He directed the Sports minister to organise sports events for disabled persons. “I would support your proposed international conference for disabled scheduled to be held on December 10 in Karachi,” he said.

Shah ordered an inquiry on suspension of a disabled employee of Karachi Water Board. “I would provide you more employment opportunities and would establish a sports facility for you,” he said.
