JI criticizes Sindh assembly bill against forced conversion

Jamaat e Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has said that the national and provincial assemblies were enacting laws in conflict with the Quran, Sunnah, and the constitution.

Addressing party workers in the city on Saturday, he said that the Sindh Assembly had passed a law restricting conversion to Islam which even the people in the west did not think of.

The law that the Sindh Assembly has passed is one which seeks to prevent forced conversion of Hindus and prevent under-age marriage, which is illegal. Similarly, the bill prohibits official conversion until the age of 18, at which point one is an adult and legally capable of making their own decisions.

Liaqat Baloch noted that the Supreme Court had rightly taken note of the government’s failure to hold a census. He said that a census was a constitutional obligation and that any government that did not hold carry out a census, had no right to rule.
