Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Saturday extended his full support to 100-day cleaning drive kicked off here by Mayor Waseem Akhtar.

“The Karachi mayor and all the district municipal corporations (DMCs) have my full support for the cleaning drive in the metropolis,” he said during a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House.

Directing to repair University Road within 10 days, he said sadly the gutters of the city were overflowing and haphazardly piled garbage was mocking us. The local government departments had funds to execute the cleanliness campaign, hence this issue should not be politicised now, he said. “Masses do not care if it is a cantonment’s jurisdiction or DMC’s. They have only interest in cleanliness,” he said.

On the other hand, Waseem Akhtar has expressed happiness over the CM’s endorsement and said he was feeling himself stronger than before after the CM’s participation in the campaign. He admitted that his party could not deliver services to the masses in the past and it would take time to correct years’ mismanagement. He invited the all to join the city government campaign.

“This time all of us should jointly work with good intention,” he said. This should be noted that the mayor launched the 100-day cleanliness drive across the metropolis.

  1. The CM has also asked them to start work instead of wrangling and talking. Wasim Akhtar, instead of starting work, is blaming his own parties' past mistakes and mismanagement but complaining of resources. He already has some Rs 10bn at his disposal which he thinks is peanut in view of the workload. Meantime, the MQM supported Workers' Unions of KMC have started playing politics who are lead by a notorious labor leader Kaneez Fatima. She is associated with the Builders' mafia for past four decades and wants a lion's share from the maintenance funds. They also have formed an alliance and opposing work shared by Chinese team who are helping and cleaning the city using their own trucks and manpower – free of cost.
