Traffic plan issued for GHQ ceremony, chehlum

City Traffic Police has issued a traffic plan for special General Headquarters ceremony and Chehlum procession to be held on Nov 29, Tuesday.

According to details, Mall Road from Shalimar Chowk to TM chowk, Kashmir Road from PTCL Chowk to Chungi No 22, Tamizuddin Road from PC Hotel turn to CSD Chowk and Iftikhar Janjua Road from EME Mess Chowk to GHQ would remain closed for all kind of vehicular traffic from morning to end of the programme to be held in GHQ on Tuesday.

Traffic will be diverted to alternate routes including Sarwar Road, Marir Chowk to Saddar and use Haider Road. Traffic coming from MH chowk will also be diverted to Haider Road and no vehicular traffic will be allowed to use Chungi No 22, FWO and T&T Chowks rather use Adra Road.

According to Chief Traffic Officer Rawalpindi Yousaf Ali Shah, deputy superintendents Police, Inspectors and warden officers would perform duties to regulate traffic on alternate routes. All arrangements to facilitate the citizens have been made, he said urging the motorists to observe traffic rules and use alternate routes to avoid traffic mess.

He said traffic plan has also been finalized for Chehlum procession to be taken out from Chor Chowk on Tuesday. He informed, main Peshawar Road, Masrial Road and Hali Road would remain close for all kind of vehicular traffic on Nov 29, afternoon to culmination of the procession.

In order to ensure the security of the mourners and procession there would be complete ban on parking of any vehicle or handcart on the route the procession.

Special squads would also be appointed to maintain the flow of traffic in adjoining areas.

The CTO further informed that Akram ul Haq Chowk, Qasim Market, Chairing Cross, Kadar Motor, Anjum Shaheed Road, Service Road towards Saddar, Service road towards Maharabad, Ashiana Chowk, Chor Chaki, Signal Battalion, Maharabad Chowk, Chinese Hospital, Tanki Chowk Westridge, Range Road Masrial Junction and Puli Marial Road would be barricaded and traffic would be diverted on alternate routes.

The CTO told that the officials have been directed to ensure parking at the distance of 200 meters from the route of the mourning procession and Imam Bargahs. The wardens have been asked to remove encroachments from the route of the procession besides keeping a vigil on suspected persons and things.
