The initial post-mortem report of N-League worker Samia Chaudhry, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances at Chamba House on Saturday, reveals no apparent signs of murder or torture marks on her body.
Samia was a worker of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and lived in Islamabad. On November 20, she left for Shorkot in a car along with several PML-N workers to attend a political rally. She stayed at room number 26 on November 22 at the Chamba House.
Nobody knows what she was doing in Lahore. It is worth-mentioning that the rooms of Chamba House are only booked for parliamentarians or these are booked on lawmakers’ approach. Samia Chaudhry was living in Room No 26 which was booked in the name of MNA Chaudhry Ashraf but the MNA said that he has nothing to do with it. Moreover, Samia’s car no LXJ-810 is also registered in the name of M Ashraf. The reality will surface after thorough investigation whether this is MNA Ashraf or someone else. The personal assistant (PA) of the MNA could also be included in the investigation because the people around the parliamentarians often use their names without letting them know.
Asif Mehmood said that he last talked to his wife on November 24. He spoke to staff at the Chamba House on November 26 who told him that his wife was found dead. The husband added that his wife was a relative of Harappa MNA Chaudhry Ashraf. Samia’s husband, Asif Mehmood, took custody of the body and left for Islamabad.
When MNA Chaudhry Ashraf was contacted, he said that Samia was resident of his constituency, but was not his relative. He said that she wanted to become a parliamentarian on a reserved seat.
“Sometimes people from the constituency say they are my relatives and I don’t stop them,” he said.
He said that when her husband called him saying that he was unable to contact her, Chaudhry Ashraf asked his personal assistant to look for her. He said that his assistant contacted the rest house where it was found out that the door of her room was open and she was dead. MNA Chaudhry Ashraf further said that since Samia was a drug addict, there is a possibility that she might have suffered a fatal heart attack.
The report confirms that there were no signs found as to the fact that she was murdered; however hopes have been attached with detailed forensic report where there are chances of more evidences to come out.
The evidence in the case has been gathered and the crime unit is carrying out its work, said Civil Lines SSP Ali Raza.
The SSP said that initially the cause of death could not be established. The samples of things from Samia’s room were sent to lab for testing, he said.
Operations DIG Dr Haider Ashraf said that the case was being inspected from all angles. All evidences including CCTV video footage would be examined, he said, adding that the relatives of the deceased were also included in the investigation. “Will reach any conclusion in 24 hours,” said the DIG.
