Prime Minister of Pakistan has appointed General Zubair Mahmood Hayat as new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), replacing CJCSC General Rashad Mahmood who is going to retire on November 29.
Meanwhile, General Qamar Javed Bajwa has been appointed as the 16th Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who will take command of the Pakistan Army from General Raheel Sharif on November 29, according to reports.
President Mamnoon Hussain promoted the two lieutenant generals to the rank of four-star generals on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
An official notification announcing the appointments is expected to be issued soon.
Gen Zubair Mahmood Hayat was commissioned in Artillery Regiment on 24 October 1980. He is a graduate of Fort Sill Oklohoma, USA, Command and Staff College Camberlay United Kingdom and National Defence Univesity, Islamabad.
He has wide experience of command, staff and instructional appointments. He has commanded an artillery regiment, mechanized division artillery, an infantry Brigade and an Infantry Division. He has been adjutant at PMA, brigade major of an Infantry Brigade, Army and air adviser at Pakistan embassy in UK.
He has also been Chief of Staff of a strike Corps, Private Secretary to COAS and Director General Staff Studies Directorate at GHQ and has also held the post of Director General Strategic Plan Division (SPD) .
Gen Zubair has commanded 31 Corps Bahawalpur and was presently Chief of General Staff at GHQ.
