If the PML-N government adopts a ‘resolute position’ on Kalabagh dam, it will be risking political death in three provinces, plus the very real threat of breakup of the federation. No political party can support Kalabagh dam after three assemblies have passed resolutions against it.
What is required is a media campaign by the supporters of the dam to thrash out the pros and cons of the dam, allay the imaginary fears in the public mind, tell the people about the multiple benefits of storing water and the serious dangers of not doing so.
This can be done only with the cooperation of the media.
