The panel discussions appearing daily on various TV Channels are a source of unwarranted and unneeded nuisance. The TV channels owners, in a bid to gain their viewer’s ratings, try to present much hyped news and the hosts as well as those few who are so called experts, state their un-bridled views with impunity. They even do not hesitate to discuss the Court sub-judice cases. Having no knowledge on the topic, most of them give out their opinions – which does not exhibit any sane logic. They happen to be “jacks of all trades”.
The TV channels of today are becoming increasingly more commercial.
PEMRA seems to be a hapless onlooker. They are either toothless or they do not have any set policy. They have so far, been unable to control the channels. They do not even correct/punish the erring channels.
The common scene seen at the panel discussions is disgusting. They are a bad influence to our children; fighting like unruly street boys, talking in a offensive manner, and surpassing all good manners!
Sometimes, a good idea can be floated by a young person. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari gave out his four points recently and one very pertinent was to ban all TV channels discussions being non-productive.
This idea is workable and if properly thrashed out it may be able to control the ongoing social fiasco!
