Two labourers were killed when a fire broke out at an oil tank filled with 1000-tonnes of fuel on Saturday at the Kemari Oil Terminal.
“Eight fire engines of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) are dousing the fire,” fire brigade officials said.
“Foam and chemical are being used to extinguish the fire,” officials added.
The fire erupted at an oil depot of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) in Kemari.
Eyewitnesses said a tank filled with liquid methanol chemical exploded when dozens of labourers were working at the site.
Those injured were rushed to the civil hospital. Rescue officials said five labourers suffered burn injuries.
PSO spokesman Shariq Farooqui said that the fire is now under control.
“The entire fire brigade staff of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) was busy in fire-fighting,” he added.
At least 25 people were killed and 58 injured when an oil tanker at Gadani Ship-breaking yard caught fire on November 1. It took four days to extinguish the deadly fire.
