Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is going to host a farewell dinner today (Thursday) in the honour of outgoing Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif who is retiring on Nov 29.
Sources said the PM will hold a one-on-one meeting with General Sharif to discuss the appointment of the new leader of the military.
The army chief is to retire on November 29 after his three-year tenure as the Chief of the Army Staff.
General Sharif has held farewell meetings with senior military officials ahead of his retirement.
The Ministry of Defence has sent a summary to the Prime Minister for the appointment of a new military chief and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
The outgoing CJCSC, General Rashad Mahmood, who paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif yesterday, will retire from his service on the 27th of this month.
The dossier carries names of four senior Lieutenant Generals – Lt-Gen Zubair Hayat, Chief of General Staff, Lt-Gen Ishfaq Nadeem, Commander-II Corps Multan, Lt-Gen Javaid Iqbal Ramday Commander-XXXI Corps Bahawalpur and Lt-Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Inspector General Training and Evaluation.
