Former caretaker prime minister of Pakistan Moeenuddin Ahmad Qureshi commonly known as Moeen Qureshi, 86 years old, has passed away in Washington, his family sources said.
He was suffering from lung infection, the family sources added.
Moeen Qureshi, was an economist and former civil servant, who served as caretaker prime minister of Pakistan from 18 July to 19 October 1993.
He received the Fulbright scholarship and went to the United States to attend the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana where he gained PhD in Economics in 1955.
In 1955, he returned to Pakistan and joined the country’s civil service and initially posted at the Planning Commission. In 1956, he left Pakistan for United States to join the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He also served as economic adviser to Ghana in 1960.
