LHC issues restraining order over auction of DTH licenses

Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday has issued a restraining order over auction of Digital To Home (DTH) due on November 23.

A full member bench headed by Justice Ayesha A. Malik heard the case filed by an independent media group.

During the hearing, plaintiff’s lawyer told the court that his clients are waiting for final judgment in the main petition.

“It will be contradictory to law if auction will be held before the final verdict”, he added.

Subsequently, the court restrained the respondents from opening the bids and finalising the tender of DTH licenses.

Earlier, Chairman of Pakistan Cable Operators Association, Khalid Arain called off the strike after successful talks with committee of Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) headed by President, Mian Amer Mehmood.

While conversing with Mujeebur Rehman Shami and Ajmal Jami in programme, ‘Nuqta-e-Nazar’, Khalid Arain said that the strike was called off with immediate effect after negotiations with PBA.

He claimed PBA would side with the operators in case Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) chose to pursue action against the association.

President of PBA decided to establish a joint committee that would hold talks with the government over Direct To Home (DTH) service.
