Cabinet discusses appointment of new COAS, approves salary increase for parliamentarians

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif exchanged notes Wednesday (today) with his cabinet members in a meeting that discussed crucial issues like selection of the new army chief and India’s aggression along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary.

PM Nawaz inspected progress in economical development while ongoing political and security situation in the country were monitored.

During the session pay increase for members of parliament was approved. The salary of Chairman Senate and National Assembly Speaker has been raised to Rs 250,000.

The salary of parliamentarians will also be increased to Rs 200,000.

Meanwhile, the cabinet has approved an increase in the salary of state ministers which will now be Rs 180,000.

The attendees exchanged views regarding the participation of Pakistan in Heart of Asia Conference to be held in India.

The army on Monday put to rest all speculations about a possible extension in the tenure of army chief General Raheel Sharif as it announced that Raheel had begun his farewell visits ahead of his retirement on November 29.

The government is considering names of four top three-star generals to fill in the slots of joint chief of staff committee and chief of army staff, which are falling vacant on the same day. Sources said a number of consultative rounds have been held but Premier Nawaz has yet to speak his mind.
