Pakistan will become the polio-free country by the end of this year.

This was stated by UNICEF Country Representative in Pakistan Angela Kearney while speaking during a programme of News and Current Affairs Channel of Radio Pakistan in connection with the Universal Children day being observed today.

Controller News and Current Affairs Channel Javed Khan Jadoon was the moderator of the programme.

Angela Kearny said that in 2014 there were 309 polio cases in Pakistan and the number has significantly reduced to 17 this year. She said that in 2014, five hundred thousand children could not be accessed for administering polio drops and this number has also been significantly dropped this year.

UNICEF Country Head said that by the coordinated and collaborative efforts of the international organisation and the government of Pakistan, polio will be eradicated from the country this year.

High Commissioner of Canada to Pakistan Perry John Calderwood said that efforts should be made for the allocation of right resources for the development of the children.
