The year 2016 has been about the revival of Pakistani cinema. From critically acclaimed ‘Ho Man Jahan’, ‘Mah-e-Mir’ and ‘Maalik’ released earlier in the year to ‘Janaan’, ‘Actor in Law’ and ‘Lahore Sey Agey’ released recently. And now, we have ‘Dobara Phir Se’ (DPS), another one ready to make it to the list
Directed by the Jackson Heights famed Mehreen Jabbar, DPS is a romantic drama revolving around a character of a divorced Pakistani woman based in New York City. The film stars Ali Kazmi, Hareem Farooq, Adeel Hussain, Tooba Siddiqui, Sanam Saeed, Atiqa Odho and Shaz Khan to name a few.
In an exclusive meet-up with the cast, they talked about their experiences while working in the movie.
“Every director has a vision,” said Tooba Siddiqui while talking to the media.
“But the way Mehreen puts forward her vision for her audience is something we have all seen before and this is why people will enjoy watching the movie,” she added.
The stars seemed particularly excited about DPS as this is a genre that has never been picked up by Pakistani cinema before.
Mehreen while addressing the media said, “This is going to be a different movie as the younger generation nowadays needs to know that there are other genres that are yet to be explored.”
“There are other genres than just rom-com,’ she joked.
Shaz Khan talked about how the lead role and supporting role does not make any difference for him. In his case, as long as he connects with the character, that’s all what matters to get him on board. That is precisely what happened when Mehreen approached him with the script of DPS as well, he mentioned.
As the event progressed, the cast talked about their experience of working with the director herself.
“All of the cast members have worked with Mehreen and it’s always been a great experience,” said Sanam Saeed, who plays Samar in the upcoming movie.
“Mehreen makes sure that the work is done but after that, she doesn’t make you feel like an outsider,” said Hareem Farooq, who plays the role of Zainab.
“She makes sure all her actors are gelled together, which is evident on-screen,” she added.
The movie is all about friendship, love, fun. It’s simple and relatable to everyone. So there is a little something for everyone in the movie.
“We are all out here promoting the movie because we know our people are lazy and won’t go out there if aren’t told to,” joked Tooba.
The meet-up ended with a lot of selfies, chaos and a reason for all of us to go watch the movie and appreciate the hard work done by the actors.
The film is a production of ARY Films, produced by Salman Iqbal and co-produced by Mohammad Jerjees Seja.
It is set to release on 25th November.
