Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang has said that his country is prepared to consider Turkey’s inclusion in Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

When asked to comment on Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan’s statement in which he expressed his desire to join SCO, the spokesman said here at a regular news briefing that Turkey is a major Eurasian country and an SCO dialogue partner that has long been in communication and cooperation with SCO members in regional affairs.

The Chinese side highly commends that. The Chinese side has noted the relevant report.

Attaching importance to Turkey’s aspiration to further deepen its cooperation with the SCO, the Chinese side is willing to consult with other SCO members about this and seek consensus through close study in accordance with legal documents and regulations of the SCO.

  1. Many decades ago, former Pakistan President Ayub Khan had also advised Turkey to return to Asia rather than looking towards Europe. "Be a first class Asian than a Third class European" advised he. Turkey at last has realised that it's interests can be served better being part of Asia. Der aayad – durust aayad.
