Federal Minister for Water and Power Kh Asif on Tuesday said the country would be generating 34,000 MW of electricity in 2018 and this would be sufficient to meet the country’s needs.
In an interview, the minister said all the power projects would be completed in 2018 and the commitment of the prime minister to end load shedding would be fulfilled. To a question, the minister said that most of the generation plants in the north are near load centres and for them it was not necessary to lay down long transmission lines.
He said arrangements have been made for the testing of plant at Port Qasim. He said when the country would have surplus power in 2018, there would be no need to run plants on costly diesel and they would be kept in reserve for use in emergency.
