Leader or tyrant?
During his second term as the prime minister, he raised certain objections against Gen Jehangir Karamat and also against the Naval Chief
Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. Leaders think and talk about the solutions, not create problems. Leadership is taking responsibility and compassion to listen to the needs of others. A Leader is one, who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way. A leaders is one who respects and helps the citizens; they may be from any political party.
It should come as no surprise that Nawaz Sharif is as ignorant about leadership as he is about every other matters pertinent to the nation’s highest office. His thinking and working can be judged as dictatorial.
His short-sightedness and arrogant approach towards power has once again put him in a troubled situation. Panam Leaks, News Leaks and his clarification or resignation against the alleged monetary corruption has badly affected his nerves, resulting in brutal and atrocious steps towards innocent citizens.
Still, Chaudry Nisar’s address, in which he threatened the citizens of Pakistan who dared demand clarification or resignation from Nawaz Sharif, appears a devious act which can go against the prime minister. At the same time Chaudry Nisar avoided any question regarding the newspaper for publishing an article against the country[s sovereignty. So sorry, it’s a complete misunderstanding of Chaudry Nisar, for both the facts and the law. Chaudry Nisar seems deceitfully playing his game against the prime minister.
The article being “libelous,” “reckless” and “defamatory,” may be called it a “politically slanderous effort” of Nawaz Sharif’s team members for reasons best known to them. It’s highly sensitive and extremely objectionable.
Libel claims are based on “the defamation of one institute”, and nothing in the published article had the slightest effect on the prime minister’s approach, which has been created by the deliberate act of someone close to the prime minister. Among other things, repeatedly bragging about national institutions is a routine for Mr Nawaz Sharif.
The news paper was well within its rights to publish the story, because the government wanted it this way. Nawaz Sharif, though a public figure but can’t control his tyrant approach. Or maybe he just could not realise the issue is one of national importance and highly sensitive.
A newspaper should not be protected from libel claims, even if it prints erroneous statement pushed by the government machinery, and even if they did not know the statement was false, or recklessly disregard its truth or falsity.
As far Nawaz Sharif is concerned, there’s a general perception that he is still immature and incompetent to hold such a sensitive office. Other perception about him is that he has a dictator’s approach. Listed below are some incidents of his past governments;
* From 1988 to 1990, as chief minister Punjab, he never followed the protocol procedure for the then Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, rather, he never hesitated to humiliate her, which states his adolescent state of mind.
* During first term as the prime minister, he developed certain differences with seasoned President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, who, by using his constitutional right dismissed his government. The differences were created because of Nawaz Sharif’s arrogant and childish behaviour, which forced the president to act this harsh way?
* During his second term, once again he developed differences with the then President Farooq Ahmed Leghari, another seasoned personality, who, resigned to save the system of so called democracy. The nation is confused, why every time he develops differences with the president’s office and what is the cause?
* During his second term as the prime minister, he raised certain objections against Gen Jehangir Karamat and also against the Naval Chief. As a result both of them opted for early retirement.
* During his second regime as prime minister, he appointed a parallel Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Supreme Court was attacked by his workers in broad day light to enforce his orders. His team members are still unable to explain this illegal act?
* For appointing a Chief Justice of his choice, it’s alleged that he promoted ‘brief case’ culture to meet his desire. Such acts are devastating for nations.
* During his second term, he inducted army personnel in Wapda, replacing chief engineers with brigadiers and even at the junior most position of meter reader, subedars were posted. WHY? This new technique ultimately destroyed one of the best organisations of the country, because mostly the senior Wapda officers chose retirement. He never realised that Wapda had spent a huge amount on their training and they were running the system meticulously despite many difficulties?
* People feel that his family was running Electric Furnaces and Steel Mills, a general concept is there that these industries cannot be run without theft of electricity. And, as he was from the field and knew the loop holes, he decided to involve the army with a hope to control line losses. Unfortunately, the line losses were tremendously raised during that time.
* During his second term, he removed Mr Shamas-ul-Mulk, the then Chairman Wapda, and appointed Gen Zulfiqar in his place. Mr Shamas is renowned worldwide as a hydel-dam expert. The reason is still unknown of his removal and appointment of a completely non-professional person at a highly technical and sensitive position.
The government should form libel laws so when any one by himself or by instructions of some government official writes purposely negative and horrible and false articles, he or she could be sued and punishment should not be less than a treason charge. Never mind even if the president, prime minister or any of the ministers is involved.
And the government should also learn to respect and safeguard its citizens and their rights. When an ocean of people is on the roads, people holding government offices should understand the sensitivity of the situation and try to handle it peacefully. Containers, blockade, barriers and shelling are not the answer of general public’s questions and demands.
It may be bad luck of Nawaz that even the third term seems collapsing before time, but his deeds and acts have forced the nation to stand against him.
