Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has been constantly losing its potential of winning Exploration and Production (E&P) projects even outside the country for not being competent enough.

According to well-placed sources, apart from key slots, dozens of other favorite officials were enjoying perks and privileges of the slots senior than their pay scales in the OGDCL for over two years now.

“At the same time, various senior slots were lying vacant for a long time as appointments could not be made, thus marring competitively running affairs of publicly listed company,” the sources added.

They said OGDCL board has recommended a few names to the ministry of petroleum and natural resources for consideration.

“A list of shortlisted candidates was forwarded to petroleum ministry but the ministry did not respond so far,” sources said.

“These twenty officials have received additional 20 per cent to their current salaries besides luxury vehicles etc.,” the sources said, adding that an official on acting charge in OGDCL cannot enjoy perks and privileges beyond six months under the company regulations, but the blue-eyed officials have been enjoying benefit in violation.

These key slots range from as high as managing director where COO is working on acting charge basis. Among top 20 slots, four positions of Executive Director (ED), four slots of general manager (GM), eight of manager, two positions of regional coordinator and one of chief procurement and one position of project coordinator is lying vacant, sources said.

When contacted, OGDCL spokesperson confirmed that various officials were holding senior slots as acting charge basis. He said various senior slots were lying vacant for a long time, and added that the company’s board has forwarded a list of the suitable candidates for the vacant slots to the federal government.

It’s up to the government to make a decision for ensuring smooth functioning of OGDCL by appointing suitable candidates for key slots of the company, the spokesperson said.
