A man identified as Dr Ibrahim released his mother and two children on Saturday after holding them hostage in Hyderabad. He has been taken into police custody.

The accused Dr Ibrahim had locked himself along with his mother and two children inside a house on Friday, the police said. His wife has left him, the police added.

The man also resorted to aerial firing at the residents in the neighbourhood leaving at least one person injured. The neighbours said that the doctor got irritated when children played outside his house. On Friday, he opened fire at them leaving the neighbourhood under a spell of deep fear.

Residents said that they had informed the police about the incident on Friday but they paid no attention.

Speaking to journalists, Dr Ibrahim claimed his property had been seized three years ago. He added that the police had failed to register a case on his complaint. ‘Why will I cause harm to my children’? Dr Ibrahim said.
