A two-day literature festival for healthcare professionals was inaugurated by Karachi University Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Iraqi here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Iraqi urged the organizers to arrange such book fairs and festivals at different faculties of the varsity to facilitate both the students and the teachers.

He said the first ever literature festival arranged for doctors and their families at the University in Karachi was a pleasant thing. Such festivals should be held at every faculty of the university to facilitate students and the faculty members, he added.

Dr Iraqi was speaking after inaugurating the literature festival, held at Pavilion End Club in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Karachi. Hundreds of doctors and their families as well as common people, especially children visited the two-day literature festival, organized by the Jahan-e-Maseeha Adbi Forum (JMAF) and purchased books worth thousands of rupees, which were being offered at discount ranging from 40 to 50 per cent.

Dr Iraqi said that it was commendable that a literary forum was trying to re-establish the link between doctors and their families with books. He said we would provide all the logistics to the Jahan-e-Maseeha Adbi Forum to come and hold such book festivals in each of our faculties at Karachi University periodically and we would be glad to host such events as well as other literary activities.

Commenting on presence of large number of families and children at the literature festival, he said that the children visiting the book fair with their parents would keep their link and friendship with the books for their whole life and hoped that other literary bodies and organizations would follow this tradition.

Dr Iraqi said that the students of varsities and colleges always remained in search of good books on fair and affordable prices and if such festivals are arranged regularly in Karachi, we would be able to put our generation back to the way of progress and prosperity.

Khwajah Razi Haider, Chief Patron of the Jahan-e-Maseeha Adbi Forum felicitated the KU VC for inaugurating the literature festival and said they would be glad to visit the KU and hold such book fairs for the KU students and faculty. He said that they decided to hold this literature festival for doctors and their families because they hardly did find time to visit book shops, libraries and take their children for book-shopping and added that they received an overwhelming response from the doctors.

Meanwhile, dozens of physicians and their families visited the ‘Literature Festival for Healthcare Professionals 2016’ and purchased books for thousands of rupees on huge discounts. Organizers claimed that they were offering free coupons for free books to doctors who were registered with them and urged more physicians to come and visit the festival at Pavilion End Club on Sunday.
