CM orders implementation of merit policy for medical college admissions

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the Punjab government has adopted merit policy at every level in the province and that this policy has yielded positive results in medical college admissions. He said that the merit policy will have to be implemented in private medical colleges on the pattern of public medical colleges and that stern action under the law will be taken for its violation.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting here today which reviewed the promotion of medical education and implementation of the merit policy for admission in medical colleges as well as other issues.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that a merit policy is the only way to uphold the right of deserving students. He said that a violation of merit policy for money is an injustice to talented students which will not be permitted.

He said that the merit policy evolved for public medical colleges is also applicable for private medical colleges and it is the responsibility of the Health Department to ensure its implementation in all medical and dental colleges.

Shehbaz Sharif said that promotion of medical education is the need of the hour and that the Punjab government has taken effective steps for this purpose. He said that the government is making sincere efforts for the improvement of public health facilities and promotion of medical education.

Member PMDC Dr Ess Muhammad said that the Punjab government has taken a revolutionary step by adopting merit policy for admission in public and private medical colleges. He said that the Punjab government has taken a lead in this regard.

Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar, Advisor Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, Additional Chief Secretary, Secretaries Health and Law, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University and concerned authorities attended the meeting while Member PMDC Dr Ess Muhammad and Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences Lahore participated in the meeting through video link from Punjab House Islamabad.
