The Nazim of a village council was killed and two others were injured in firing during a tribal jirga here on Friday.
Police said that a tribal jirga was being held in the Cham Dheri locality of Mardan to settle a dispute between two groups when the two sides had a heated exchange of words.
The verbal clash turned violent after which one of them opened indiscriminate fire and ended up killing the Nazim identified as Subhan and injuring two others.
The body and injured were both shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities and the police after registering a case began their efforts to look for the accused.
